How Can Good Really Mean Bad?

“If you find, eat just enough – too much of it and you will vomit” – proverbs 24:16

I am a chocolate fanatic. I love chocolate covered pretzels, triple fudge chocolate brownie ice cream and hershey cream pies. Anything chocolate and I want it. With such a great sweet tooth, imagine all the bad things that can happen because of  this tastebud desire. Excessive sugar intake can lead to cavities, high blood pressure, increased risks of health diseases or worse of all, weight gain. As much as I love chocolate and think it is good, it is not good for me. The argument can oppose dark chocolate is nutritious and powerful source of antioxidants. While others could disagree and argue, milk chocolate causes higher levels of added sugar and fat. The moral is chocolate can be good but it can also be bad. The verse of Proverbs suggests, we live with what is enough and not be greedy. When we have enough, it is good, but when we become greedy it becomes bad. It is okay to have chocolate every one in a while but it is not okay to have chocolate everyday.

“Seldom set food in your neighbors house, too much of you and they will hate you” -Proverbs 24:17

Too much of a good thing can be bad for you. Relationships often end in break up because of this. When we first meet our spouse, we are in love! We love everything little thing about them, the way the smell, eat or sleep. We find ourselves wearing our best outfits, using our best perfume/cologne and trying our best to impress. Than time goes on, and comfortability sinks in. We become comfortable and no longer do the things we used to in the beginning of our relationship. We start to lose appreciation for our spouse over time because of the constant togetherness. The idea of being with one another is good, but when it becomes excessive it quickly turns bad. Today, lets take a step back from whatever good thing we are doing and ask ourselves is this really good? Studying is good but so is spending time with friends and family. Helping others is great but if you cant help yourself, how can you help another? Loving others is awesome, but if you can’t love yourself first, how much love do you truly have to give?

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths” -Proverbs 3:5-6

The idea of good and bad can misconstrued depending on the perspective of the flesh or The Spirit. Our flesh may see bad things as good but our Spirit will always know the best outcome for us. The flesh can not be trusted whereas The Spirit will always lead to righteousness. So, Let us live in The Spirit and all times by seeking God’s belief of good and bad rather than following our own beliefs. All good things come from God, so let’s give thanks for all the good in our lives but also show discipline but not over doing it.
