Jesus was speaking to a crowd of people when he saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen that were washing their nets. Jesus walked over to the fishermen and got into the boat with them. He taught them his ways and encouraged them to put their nets back into the water. Simon, one of the fishermen said to Jesus “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets” -Luke 5:3
Could you imagine, working all day and night out on sea and not catching anything! The fishermen were exhausted and had no hope of catching anything after working all day but because they believed in Jesus, they dropped their nets into the water.
“When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink” -Luke 5:6
WOW! Jesus taught them what having faith could do. They went from having no hope and being fish less, to being hopeful and having so much fish their boats began to sink!
The fishermen were so astonished that Simon dropped to his knees in awe saying that he should not be in the presence of Jesus because he is a sinful man. Jesus replied “Don’t be afraid from now on you will fish for the people“. They pulled their boats to shore and left everything behind to follow Jesus!
Jesus taught the fisherman to have faith and showed them how quickly God can work the second we believe!
