lazy Sloth

Sloth

Sloth is one of the seven deadly sins for a reason. Sloth is a combination of procrastination and laziness. It’s mission is to keep your from living out your purpose. Sloth acts as a barrier between you and your calling. It is the road block that causes you to deter off your path. It is the hurdle you must jump over in order to move forward. Sloth replaces motivation with fear. It discourages you from pursing your dreams and keeps you in a state of stagnation. Sloth has lasting affects in three categories: Mental, Physical & Spiritual.

Sloth is a mental drainer. It takes a hold of your thoughts, forcing you to stay in your comfort zone. It blurs your vision of the future and makes you think tomorrow is promised. Sloth is an energy stealer. It’s sluggish feelings drain your power and keeps your soul from seeking truth. The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied [Proverbs 13:4]. Sloth desires to do nothing. Literally, nothing. It desires to turn you into a couch potato so that you may never work or serve others for the glory of God. The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor. All day long he craves and craves, but the righteous gives and does not hold back [Proverbs 21:25-26].

“The hand of the diligent will rule, while the slothful will be put to forced labor” – Proverbs 12:24

Sloth is a physical drainer. When it’s time to hit the gym and work out, sloth will tell you ‘go tomorrow.’ Sloth doesn’t want you to be fit or strong in the physical. It doesn’t want you to have strength because it knows the glory it will bring to The Lord. Sloth doesn’t want you to volunteer at your local shelter, give money to the needy or go to church. It is a bondage, chaining you down from moving around in this world and getting things accomplished. Sloth doesn’t want you to work, whether in the natural or spiritual. It doesn’t want you to receive income because it fears you may use it for tithing or helping other Believers. It doesn’t want you to pray because it fears you may be delivered. Sloth is one of the enemy’s biggest tricks: Procrastinate until your dying day and never fulfill God’s calling for your life.

“Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord” -Romans 12:11

Sloth attacks the Spirit. It works against God to keep your Spirits down. It plays on your emotions and causes you to forget God’s truth. It partners with the flesh to keep your hearts set on worldly things. If you do not know the word of God, you are more likely to believe the words from sloth. Believers, set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. The truth is this world will eventually come to an end but God’s Kingdom will reign forever. When your Spirit is overtaken by sloth, remind yourself who you are in Christ. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them [Ephesians 4:10]. You are destined for greatness!

Faith without works is dead. You can have all the faith in the world but it is meaningless until you do the work. God’s children are his hands and feet. If you do not put in your work, it affects other Believers. His children around the world are all interconnected. There is one body, but it has many parts. But all its many parts make up one body. It is the same with Christ. We were all baptized by one Holy Spirit. And so we are formed into one body. It didn’t matter whether we were Jews or Gentiles, slaves or free people. We were all given the same Spirit to drink. So the body is not made up of just one part. It has many parts[ 1 Corinthians 12:12-14]. Now go out and do your work, live your calling and be true to yourself! Remain motivate and work hard!
