Apostle Paul wrote in the book of Romans ‘For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do–this I keep on doing.’ This seems to be a reoccurring theme amongst Believers worldwide. You want to stop drinking but can’t seem to put the glass down. You want to stop having sex outside of marriage but when lust enters the room, temptation is overbearing. You want to stop hanging around that person who is always filled with drama and negativity but you just can’t find it in your heart to cut ties. Whatever the reason, doing good is not as simple as just ‘wanting’ to do good.
Actions speak louder than words. What good will it be talking about the good you want to do but never acting on it? Paul makes a great point. As much as he wanted to do good, live Christ Like and be right before God, he couldn’t. The truth is, God already knew this is how Paul and the rest of humanity will feel. The struggle between doing good and doing wrong is REAL! Humans are born into a world of sin and although God has given power, authority and a sound mind to Believers, the struggle continues.
Thank God for His Love, grace and mercy! He knew this would be a battle for His Children which is why he came into the world in human form, through Jesus, and broke the chains of slavery. In today’s world, no matter how many times you chose to do bad, God forgives. No matter how many times you repent for the same thing, God has already forgiven you. The Lord knew that you would do what you do before you did it. So even though you have been doing wrong over and over and over and over again . . . His grace is still sufficient.
The devil may throw daggars and try to bring guilt, shame or regret over you because of your slip ups but He who is in you is stronger than He who is in the world! You will stumble …. and you may fall but the only way you stay down is if you never get back up. Life on earth will be filled with many obstacles and you may feel like you are not making progress because you keep doing what you said you would stop, but progress only stops when you stop trying! You are a mighty warrior and through the strength of Christ, you will overcome any setback. After all, setbacks are God’s setups 🙂
