I am not a good person.
I am a sinner. You are a sinner. In fact, our mothers, fathers, friends, and everyone on earth is a sinner. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Yet, God freely and graciously declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins (Romans 3:23). Despite how evil we are, how many times we have used the Lord’s name in vain or turned our backs from the needy, God still gives us grace and mercy. Despite how unworthy we are, nothing can ever separate us from the love of God. Not death or life, angels or demons, fears or worries. Not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39).
If this is true, why do so many people feel unloved? We seek to fill the whole in our hearts by looking for love in all the wrong places. We chose to stay in depression, keep the wrong people around us or stay at a job we hate. Why do we put ourselves in such unlovable situations and think ‘this must be all life has to offer’???
We allow our emotions to influence our actions which keep us from experiencing God’s unconditional love. We sit in our guilt and dwell in regret, reflecting on childhood experiences, traumatic events or breakups. We focus more on losing the love from people, than receiving the love from God. We allow our thoughts to make us feel bad for not being better than we are. We allow people to play on our self-esteem making us feel like we will never amount to anything. We tell ourselves how undeserving we are and how nothing good ever happens to us.
My friend, if you have these thoughts, understand they do not come from God. The enemy constantly tries to remind us of how unworthy we are so that we may live in depression, never reach our fullest potential and continue suffering by battling our own thoughts. We magnify our problems and not our God. But, when you discover the enemy’s tricks, you become aware to the truth of who your are truly loved by. God’s love is unfailing and unconditional. His love for us extends from eternity to eternity. His love will last forever despite any horrific things we have done. God loves you through it all. We know Gods great love for us because while we were still sinners he sent Jesus to die for us (Romans 5:8). Don’t allow the enemy to play you!
God didn’t have to save us from our sin. He could of flooded the earth, sent plagues or just started over and created a whole new earth. Instead, he gave us hope. He gave us salvation. He gave us Jesus! He gave us the opportunity to be made right with him despite our sin. God loves you and it’s time we start believing it and living in His love, grace and mercy.
