“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul ?” -Matthew 16:26
As my head hit the stirring wheel from the impact of the car, I was left with a throbbing headache. It took me a few seconds to realize what just happened. While at a red light, a car hit me from behind pushing me forward hitting another car that hit another car. I was in a complete state of shock. My hands were shaking, tears were pouring down my face and my only concern was ‘Is everybody okay?’
Although all four cars had damage, everyone was safe. Everything happened in a matter of seconds, I can’t help but be reminded that life is short. One minute we are having fun getting dressed for a music festival and the next minute a gunman is on the 32nd floor of a hotel shooting at the crowd. I am aware that death is a harsh reality but yesterday was a major wakeup call for me.
What if I died yesterday? Where would my soul rest? Is my name written in heaven? I began questioning life and the choices I have made. I am thankful that I am saved by the blood of Christ, but what about those who don’t know Jesus? What about those who are lost and are living to please their flesh? What about those who choose not to acknowledge the existence of God or believe that they can enter Heaven based on their good deeds? Through my faith I have answers to these questions. Through my faith I know that I am saved. But what about those who have no faith?
Believers, tomorrow is not promised. Later on tonight is not promised, in fact, the next hour is not even guaranteed. The choices you make right now, will have a lasting impression on the rest of your life. It is time to stop dedicating time, energy and power into the things of this world because it will all be for nothing. The world will not save you, only God can. If you don’t have a relationship with The Lord, it’s time to start investing into your faith. If you don’t have answers to your questions, it’s time to start asking. It is time to start removing ungodly people from your life, praying for the lost and living according to The Word.
Today I ask you, if it was your last day on earth would your soul have peace?
“Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins shall die” – Ezekiel 18:4
