Guilt

“My guilt overwhelms me, it is a burden too heavy to bear”          – Psalms 38:4

When we have guilt, depression or insecurities it is difficult for the Spirit within us to lead. We cloud our judgement and create confusion within ourselves by filling our mind with thoughts not of God. We are not meant to experience these negative emotions, because God wants more for us. God wants us to focus on his love, Jesus Christ and being a good neighbor to others. When we act on these negative feelings, it builds a wall between our relationship with God because we are going against his word.

The feeling of guilt, by nature is sin. God does not want us to feel guilty about anything because it does not bring us any good. We must be reminded that the Holy Spirit within was not created with such feelings and we have to be strong enough to stop these thoughts from forming. We have to let go of whatever is holding us back and focus on what will help us move forward. According to his word God wants us to be free from guilt and focus on his love. The Sacrifice of Jesus has allowed us to live with a clean conscious because he has washed us clean and covered our sins.

Today’s challenge is to write a letter to yourself. This letter will explain what guilt you are holding on to, the reason you are feeling depressed or what insecurities you experience. This letter will be written from the heart, and can be as long or short as you’d like. Explain what, when, where, why and how these feeling impact your life and what can be done to help you overcome these feelings. When the letter is complete, it will be used as a prayer guide. Once your letter is written it is time to pray and let God know everything that was written. If you would like to take this challenge a step further, write out another letter a week from your prayer and compare the two.
