Greed

Greed is the desire to want more than you need. Too much of a good thing becomes bad. Greed is an intense emotion that is constantly seeking to be filled. The problem with greed is that no matter what it does, it will never be satisfied. It is infinite cravings for worldly possessions. Greed is selfish and lacks consideration for others. It doesn’t care about taking from people in need as long as it’s needs are taken care of. Greed will never be content with the amount of money in a checking or savings account. It believes it needs to store up it’s treasure on earth. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction [1 Timothy 6:9].

“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.-Matthew 6:19-21

Greed seeks wealth, power or food. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs [1 Timothy 6:10]. Money is not evil rather it is the love of money, greed that is evil. Money is a blessing. It is a tool for survival. You need money to eat, money for shelter and money to bless others. God wants you to have money and a lot of it. When money is in the hands of Believers it will be used to bring glory to God. But, when a Believer becomes greedy, money will corrupt them. Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” [Hebrews 13:5].

” Those who love money will never have enough. How meaningless to think that wealth brings true happiness! The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what good is wealth—except perhaps to watch it slip through your fingers!” – Ecclesiastes 5:10-11
Greed loves power. It gets a thrill out of dominating situations and being in a position to control others. It takes advantage of people and could care less about living in truth. Greed is consumed with power and acts out it’s own fleshly desires. The desires of greed are toxic to the Spirit. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world [1 John 2:16]. When you live with greed in your heart, you have no room for God’s love. It uses it’s power to disobey God’s commands. Hearts trained in greed have eyes full of adultery and have an appetite for sin that is impossible to satisfy.

“Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it” – Proverbs 13:11
Greed is focused on receiving rather than giving. It will pack leftovers from dinner to hoard in a fridge instead of giving food to the hungry. Greed will force you to eat after you are full. It will pump you with cravings to eat more and more so that you eat more and more until you can no longer breathe. The goal of greed is to depend on itself because it doubts that your Heavenly father can provide. It eats away at your soul bringing fear and worry into your mind. Greed pollutes your faith and makes you lean on your own understanding. It’s only mission is to keep you thinking self-centered, feeling dissatisfied and acting against God. Whoever oppresses the poor to increase his own wealth, or gives to the rich, will only come to poverty. Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge, for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips [Proverbs 22:16-18].
