Every Word You Speak is A Seed You Plant

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen” – Ephesians 4:29 NIV

This verse reminds me the power of words. The tongue has the power of life or death. You can speak life into others by offering encouraging words to someone who is down, inspiring others to pursue their dreams or motivating someone to make better decisions. On the other hand, you can speak death into others by constantly complaining, comparing or belittling someone. God’s word tells us that we should always use our words to build others up.

Speaking with love, is a lot easier said then done. What about when you are annoyed, frustrated or turn into The Hulk filled with rage? Are you able to use only loving words? This is the true test of maturity within your faith. The goal is to speak with love regardless of the emotions you are feeling or if the person deserves it or not. Speaking with love can be a struggle for some, but it doesn’t have to be. It is a process that begins with self-awareness.

Every single word you speak aloud is a seed you plant in your garden of vocabulary. The more positive, loving and generous words you speak, the more good fruit will produce. The more negative, harmful and jealous words you speak, the more bad fruit you will produce. The theory is simple but the actions are tough. You have control over your tongue. You reap what you sow and if your garden is filled with good fruit, you will prosper.

There are times when I find myself upset and want to hurt someone as much as they hurt me. But, I refrain. I know that if I were to say hurtful things eventually those words would come to pass. Every word that you speak will manifest itself in your life. If I speak negative things at someone, there is a chance that those negative things could happen to me. Believers, I encourage you to be reminded of how important speaking with love is for the sake of your soul.
