God is wisdom

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” – James 1:5

The difference between wisdom and knowledges is the difference between heaven and earth. Wisdom is a spiritual gift of wisdomunderstanding that can only be given by God. The only way to receive, is to ask and Wisdom is something we all need. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere [James 4:7]. When I first began reading through the bible, things did not make sense. I found myself feeling lost, confused and just plain bored with the material I was reading. I knew that I wanted to grow my faith and build my connection with God, but I failed to comprehend what His words meant. After days of frustration and moments of hopelessness, I had a conversation with my mentor. She explained to me the most important aspect of reading God’s word was and why I was not understanding the bible. I did not ask. She encouraged me to pray before reading God’s word, and asking for His wisdom to help guide me and bring clarity to His word. If God is the only true living and active God, than His words must also be true and active. The next day, I poured my heart out in prayer begging for God to help me understand His truth and He lead me to proverbs.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” – proverbs 3:5

prideReading through proverbs, every word seemed to jump out and resonate within my mind. Everything made sense! It wasn’t because of my own understanding rather it was God who revealed it to me by giving me the wisdom and understanding. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding [Proverbs 2:6]. It’s easy to comprehend things in the flesh but the flesh is limited. The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice [Proverbs 12:15]. We must learn to lean not on our own understanding but seek God’s heavenly counsel. Wisdom is not only knowing right from wrong, it is the ability to act righteously even when the flesh wants to do wrong. Wisdom brings discernment and good character. Wisdom creates opportunity and pushes us toward greater blessings.

“Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.” – Proverbs 3:13-18

“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” – Ephesians 5:15-17
