flatline Day 8: Sin + Death = Satan

Day 8: Sin + Death = Satan

“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell” – Matthew 10:28

In the beginning, God created Adam and Eve. The first people ever created in God’s image. God’s creation was good [Genesis 1:31]. He wanted Adam and Eve to live happily, eat freely and multiple the earth. Unfortunately, the one thing that was off limits was the one thing that changed the course of history. “But you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die [Genesis 2:17].” The Lord knew that if they were to eat from this tree, their eyes would be open to evil and sin would enter into their hearts, and of course God was right. The moment Eve was deceived, sin was created. It was never in God’s original plan to create humans and lead them to death. He wanted for His creation to flourish and live everlasting. Sin is the reason why death exist [Romans 6:23]. Our bodies are vessels that hold our Spirit. Although, humans will die eventually, our souls will live forever. And the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it [Ecclesiastes 12:7].

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16

Since death is now added to the puzzle of life, God created a new piece to fit perfectly, to save the world [Isaiah 53:5]. The new piece of the puzzle is Jesus Christ. God knew that people would keep sinning and ultimately no one would be good anymore. If not one is good, and everyone is a sinner, than death would occur to all of mankind. But, because God loves His creation so much, He figured out a way to save sinners [Romans 5:19]. You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, He disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross [Colossians 2:13-15].

The truth is that there is an unseen spiritual world going on all around us. The battle of Good vs. Evil. In Christ, we have already received victory. God disarmed any evil forces, rulers or authorities in this world which is why the name of Jesus holds power. We are in this war, whether we believe it or not. There is not a day that goes by that the enemy is not working against you and trying to keep you down. When God sent Jesus it was the ultimate ‘in yo face’ to Satan and shamed him forever. Satan thought he would rule over God’s creation and there would be no way out for us, but like always, Satan was wrong. When God sent Jesus for us, He defeated Satan . . .again and death would no longer occur for those who accept God’s gracious gift of Christ.

The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. – 1 John 3:8
