Day 4: Why have faith?

Question: If I can’t see God, why should I believe in Him? How can I know that God exists? 

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” – 2 Corinthians 4:18

God wants us to have faith. Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see [Hebrews 11:1]. When the wind blows, we feel a breeze, but we do not see the wind. Just because we do not see the wind, does not mean it is not there. The same goes for God. We do not see him, but we feel him. When we believe and walk by faith, Our Spirits become aligned to His will and we experience a love, peace and joy like never before.

Why should you believe? To save your soul. Our bodies are temples where our soul dwells. Those who have faith, have the Holy Spirit. “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own [1 Corinthians 6:19]” I lived over 2 decades of my life as an atheist. Alone and confused. Stubborn and naive. Hopeless and lost. The truth is, what do you have to lose by choosing to believe? Hypothetically speaking, if God wasn’t real, how would that hurt you? It won’t. Having faith makes you a better, stronger, wiser, happier and more peaceful person. Living by faith is a win/win situation regardless of God’s existence.

Life with God has purpose. He works within our Spirits, renews our mind and changes our heart. Life without God is empty. We lead with our flesh and will never feel satisfied. Our flesh is sin and sin will never bring long lasting fulfillment. We are all infected and impure with sin [Isaiah 64:6]. However, when we have God in our lives, we are no longer slaves to sin but slaves to righteousness.

“You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness” – Romans 6:18

Now for the second part of the question, You will know that God exists, by the work He does in your life. The beauty of having a relationship with God, is that you see the change manifest everyday within your life. You speak different, walk different and feel different. By answering prayers and opening doors of opportunity, His work will be a reflection of the new you. We may be able to debate the existence of God, but we can not debate testimonies. You will know that God exists, because He will make it known.
