Day 4: The Fishing Net

Parable of the Fishing Net

Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a fishing net that was thrown into the water and caught fish of every kind. When the net was full, they dragged it up onto the shore, sat down, and sorted the good fish into crates, but threw the bad ones away. That is the way it will be at the end of the world. The angels will come and separate the wicked people from the righteous” – Matthew 13:47-49

This parable of Jesus explains what will happen on the day of judgement. In Matthew 22:14 it reads “For many are invited, but few are chosen.” God loved the world so much that he sent Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of the world. God did not limit who could accept or not accept Jesus into their hearts, rather He gave humans free will to decide for themselves. Jesus’s disciples walked with him and were first hand witnesses to his many miracles. When Jesus was ascended, his disciples continued spreading the good news around the world. The Good news is the sacrifice of Jesus and our new life in Christ. Before Jesus came, people lived under the law of Moses. They would sacrifice animals and burnt offerings in order to repent and be forgiven of their sins. When Jesus came, he changed everything. Now, we no longer live under the law but live under grace and forgiveness. We no longer need to sacrifice animals or burnt offerings but simply confess Jesus is Lord, accept Him into our hearts and ask God for forgiveness. I don’t know about you, but I am thankful for living in this time!

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”

– 1 John 1:9
