Day 4: Greed is a desire of the flesh

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.” – 1 Timothy 6:10

Greed is an intense and selfish desire for something. When we live with greed we will never be satisfied. Enough will never be enough, because we are looking at ‘something’ to bring happiness. A man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions, but rather in his relationship with Jesus. Satan uses our fleshly desires to keep us from living Christ like. Satan wants us to be self-fish because that’s who He is. He cares only about himself and doesn’t want to see anyone happy. Don’t feed your flesh, feed you spirit, because your flesh will always lead to the path of death, destruction and chaos. Be aware of greedy tendencies and ask God for the discipline to give freely.

A greedy man stirs up strife, but the one who trusts in the Lord will be enriched” -Proverbs 28:25

Greed stops our faith from growing and we become stagnant. When we express greed it shows a lack of trust in God. If we truly trusted God, we would believe that He will supply all of our wants and needs. When God is our provider, we will never lack. However, when we avenge for ourselves and try to store up goods, we will never be fulfilled. Since greed is not of Good, those who have greed in their heart, do not belong to God, rather they belong to Satan since Greed is evil. We must learn to release any selfish desires and ask God to fill our hearts and minds with His desires so that we may live according to His will.

One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.”    – Proverbs 11:24
