“Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil” – Ephesians 4:26
Anger is not a sin. Our actions in anger is what births sin. It’s easy to lash out, say hurtful things or act outside of character when in anger, but we must be aware that this is all apart of Satan’s plan. Satan enjoys to see us angry because He knows it will lead to negative outcomes. No good comes from anger. God let’s us know that it is okay to be angry, even Jesus got upset [Mark 3:4] but it is not okay to go to sleep angry. Before we lay our heads to sleep we must address the anger we hold within, if not we will give the enemy an opportunity.
If you get into an argument with a spouse, do your best to speak with love and not emotion. If you get into a fight with a family member, mend the relationship today because tomorrow is not promised. When we continue to act in our anger it will push us further from God. When we lead with negative emotions, we are weak-minded and our judgement is clouded, which makes us an easy target for Satan.
“A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back.” – Proverbs 29:11
Anger is associated with pain, blame, lose or unfairness. When we become angry, no matter how mad we are, we must go to God. The only way to overcome evil is with good [Romans 12:21]. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.. The next time we become angry, take a deep breath and remember God’s word.
“For the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” – James 1:20
