cross Day 14: Is Jesus God

Day 14: Is Jesus God

Question: Is Jesus really God?

“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation.” – Colossians 1:15

“For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross” – Colossians 1:19-20

The two verses above are powerful. They display the truth about who Jesus was and how Jesus was in fact, God in the human form. Jesus was the ‘visible image of the invisible God‘ and existed before anything was created. In the beginning, before creation, God existed. We read in Colossians that Jesus also existed, which confirms that Jesus and God are one. The second verse explains that God was pleased to live in Christ, and through him reconciled everything. When sin entered the world, it consumed the people in it. People were living in sin and seeking only to fulfill the desires of their flesh. God made a plan to end this sinful way of living, forever. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by the blood of Christ, because people were no longer forced to be a slave to sin but could now choose to be a slave to righteousness.

Jesus is the only person, in history, that was born from a virgin. Half human and half Holy Spirit. He walked the earth for over 30 years, sinless. No human could ever be without sin, unless He indeed was God, who is sinless. Jesus is able to understand our struggle, temptation and stress because he too experienced these problems first hand.

To understand Jesus being God, is to understand God’s love for His people.

In the old testament, there are many references of ‘The Messiah’ being Jesus. “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us [Matthew 1:23] or Isaiah 9:6 that says, “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His Government and His peace will never end.” Before Jesus was born, before Mary (his mother) was born, before her parent’s parents were born, Jesus was part of the plan. God had already made up His mind as to how he would save the world from sin and alter life as we know it by redeeming His beloved children; Thank God he did!

In John 14:6 Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the father except through me. If you had really known me, you would know who my father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!” Jesus refers to himself as God in this paragraph. In 1 Corinthians 8:6 it says “There is one God, the Father, by whom all things were created, and for whom we live. And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created, and through whom we live” This defines Jesus equivalency to God, and confirms they are indeed, one.
