Be Humble . . . Sit Down!

Have you ever had a song get stuck in your head? No matter what you do to get it out your head, the rhythm, beat or lyrics seem to be on repeat in your mind. This is how I felt with Kendrick Lamar’s humble song. When I first heard it, I thought “Wow! finally someone speaking the truth and not afraid to go against the grain.” Not only did this song create a social media frenzy but his entire album had the world in shock. When I purchased this album, it was clear why, the theme and tone behind this project was creative, fresh and honest!

Society teaches us that we need to be perfect and Lamar counters that with “I’m so sick and tired of the photoshop …” It takes courage to speak out for what you believe even though it may not be what people want to hear. Although this song brought much controversy, it also brought awareness. Humility is necessary for human growth, both spiritual and natural. A humble person receives favor from The Lord and humility helps faith grow. Those who are prideful will be destroyed by their own desires. God opposes the proud and exalts the humble.

In a world full of hatred, pride and greed, humility is a rare seed. It is up to you to plant seeds of humility in your heart and mind. Good seeds will always produce good fruit. King David is a great example of humility. From a shepherd boy to King of all Israel, his legacy shows humility, honor and loyalty. A mighty warrior and man of God, who not only mourned the death of those he loved but also mourned the death of his enemies. It takes a humble person to love their enemies and pray for those who persecute them, but those who are humble receive great rewards.

Luke 6:27-31

“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.
