When you hear the word ‘wealth’ what sort of images come to mind? Stacks of money? Nice cars? Mansions? or maybe a life of stability? By definition wealth refers to having an abundance of valuable possessions or money. This definition is based on a worldly perspective. The world will tell you that wealth comes from the amount of money in your bank account or how many diamonds you own. The world determines success based on riches. However, in the Kingdom of God money is nonexistent. There is no need for any form of currency in heaven because money is a worldly element.
“Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf” -Proverbs 11:28
In fact, God’s word informs Believers not to store up their treasures on earth because you will not be able to take it with you when you leave earth. Instead, store your treasures in heaven where you will spend eternity. Wherever you chose to store your wealth, your heart will also be [Matthew 6:19-21]. The Great King Solomon was the ‘wealthiest’ man that ever lived. He had everything a man could ever desire or want. He lived in a beautiful palace with servants who did anything he wanted them too. He possessed any and everything the world could offer, yet he still felt like he was missing something.
King Solomon understood that true happiness would never come from worldly wealth, rather it could only come from spiritual wealth. Solomon searched for meaning throughout his life until he was given the opportunity of a lifetime. One night, God spoke to Solomon and told him he could ask for anything in the world and it would be given. Could you imagine God asking you what you wanted? Where would you begin? Would you ask for a better job? better spouse? or maybe a new house or new car? Solomon asked God for the meaning of life and God gave him very great wisdom and understanding, and knowledge as vast as the sands of the seashore.
“For we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs” [1 Timothy 6:7-10]
Believers, I want to remind you of the wealth you already possess. You are spiritually wealthy. You have the power of prayer and anything you ask in faith will be given to you. You have the power to speak things into existence because God has given you the authority to do so. You have the ability to have peace in your heart, live in truth and speak with love simply because of God’s grace. True wealth comes from the understanding of your faith, having The Holy Spirit and living with confident hope at all times. It is having the wisdom to know who you are in Christ and the ability to SmileWithFaith despite any suffering you are faced with. Spiritual wealth will exceed a lifetime. It is an infinite treasure that can only belong to those who possess faith. You can have all the riches in the world, but without Jesus, you have nothing. Yet, if you have nothing, not a penny in your account, but have Jesus, You are wealthy!
