Freedom is a State of Mind

“Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God” – 1 Peter 2:16

Freedom is a blessing. There are millions of people in the world who are not able to have their freedom. My friend, Andre who has been incarcerated since we were in high school is one of many, unable to experience freedom. He does not have a choice in what time he eats, where he sleeps or when to shower. People live in countries with dictatorship who control their lives by limiting their freedom. People live in villages and have to worry about militia, kidnapping and starvation. Needless to say, if you are able to live freely, appreciate it. It is easy to get caught up with responsibility. There are many places to go, things to do, meetings to make and people to meet. Yet, we forget that these are all choices, freedom. We have the ability to chose to stay home, procrastinate, skip meetings or cancel lunch dates. We can chose to live knowing the freedom we have or we can chose to be consumed with the world limiting ourselves by our thoughts.

“And by him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses” – Acts 13:39

Freedom is a state of mind. The law of Moses was a set of rules that people had to follow in order to be made right and have freedom. Now, we live under the law of Grace. We have freedom, simply because Jesus paid the price. The mind is a beautiful thing and Satan knows much about it. The Enemy knows how to send negative thoughts and keep us feeling enslaved. It is up to us to understand that feelings are based on thoughts, not reality. The reality is that we are free, even if we may feel like were not. The truth is freedom is not so much about a physical capability as much as it is mental. Even Andre, who has been imprisoned for over a decade, understands that freedom comes from thoughts.

“But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life” – Romans 6:22

Today, make a choice to embrace freedom. Understand that freedom comes from thoughts and when you think good things, good things happen. When you stop complaining, you start gaining. When you stop feeling depressed, you become less stressed. When you forget about trouble, you’ll receive double. Get the point? You are free! Jesus came into the world so that we may no longer be slaves to sin but become slaves of righteousness [Romans 6:18]. Thank The Lord for Christ so that we may live freely!
