I can’t help but feel a sadness in my heart, when I think of the world and how it has become. I don’t just mean global warming, the flint water crisis or the inhumane treatment of animals. I’m not even talking about the government, biased medium outlets or the injustice of the prison system.
I think about the morals, values and respect that has changed throughout generations. Women now call themselves ‘sluts’ while smiling and believing these words are used as a term of endearment. Men no longer have expectations for themselves, thinking it is cool to sleep with more than one woman simultaneously. Children have no fear of their parents and rebel against authority. Women, men and children it seems like people have transformed what used to be abnormal to seem normal.
Celebrities are idols to be worshipped, people have rights to choose their gender or marry the same sex and obesity is an epidemic despite world hunger being one of the leading cause of death. In 2017, we seem to have created a society that follows it’s own desires, creates it’s own truth and seeks pleasure over discipline.
This reminds me of the Israelites who begged for a King, despite God being their King. God fulfilled their every want and need, yet they longed to be like the other nations who had kings. Even when Samuel tried to warn the Israelites that a king will make them slaves, they did not care. Thinking of their decision to disobey God makes me think of the many people who chose to go against God by living impure, prideful or rebellious lives putting temporary satisfaction over eternal salvation.
‘Sex sells’ is a popular phrase used for marketing and advertising. If the Lord views sex as a sinful act against the body and one should not be involved in until marriage, how can this ‘sin’ bring in billions of dollars to businesses around the world? People are profiting over the sinful nature of viewers and no one seems to think that this should not be the norm.
If we do not know the word of God, we will not know what God defines as normal and abnormal. It’s obvious that today’s culture does not take God’s views into consideration as praying in schools has been banned, discussing God is taboo and people are being killed because of their faith. If you follow this world and the people in it, the only one that will suffer is you. The world’s desire lead to corruption, sexual immorality and destruction. The wicked never prosper and evil never wins, so why do people continue playing for the losing team? If you do not know better, how can you do better?
How different would life be, if we started following the desires of The Spirit and not the flesh? If we trusted in The Lord and not ourselves? If we did not follow the media but followed The word?
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will” – Romans 12:2
