Day 3: Forgive Always

“Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”  Jesus answered, I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times”                               -Matthew 18:21-22

Peter asked a great question, how many times should we forgive. Jesus response let’s us know that we should forgive, always. The idea of forgiving 77 times shows that no matter what the situation or how many times it’s been repeated, we must still forgive.

If a boyfriend cheats on his girlfriend, she needs to be able to forgive no matter how hurt she may feel. By forgiving him, she no longer carries the hurt and pain from the situation. That does not mean she needs to stay with him. Our only job is to forgive, not force ourselves to stick around because of a feeling of obligation or comfort. The purpose of forgiving is to let go of the burdens and stress that comes with grudges and resentment. Forgiveness allows us to be healed from the inside out and releases negative tension. We forgive so that we can move on with our lives and have a peace of mind.

Forgiveness is not intended to stay in a destructive style or continue to support bad habits. Once we forgive, the chapter is finished and it is on to the next page. Do not stay stuck reading the same page over and over, hoping that it will change; The only way the story will be different, is when you turn the page and continue reading the next chapter.

If you are holding on to any pain, grudges or sadness than it is time to let it go. LET GO AND LET GOD! When someone does wrong to us, it helps us determine if this person will add to our lives or subtract from it. If they do not add happiness, love or satisfaction than it may be time to remove them for your life for you own well being and subtract them from your life.
